Prime Number Spiral (a.k.a. the Ulam Spiral) is constructed as follows: Consider a rectangular grid. We start with the central point and arrange the positive integers in a spiral fashion (anticlockwise). The prime numbers are then marked. There is a tendency for the prime numbers to occur on diagonal lines, however far out into the spiral one goes. This is software is for exploring the Prime Number Spiral. It also (a) allows coloring of the prime

calculates the prime numbers 1..N, tells you if N is prime etc. Prints tables of primes. Computes the prime just below or above N. calculates the prime numbers 1..N, tells you if N is prime etc. It is useful in computing optimal HashTable sizes. Java source included.

Prime Time. In this mode blocks containing numbers constantly ascend the screen. The student must select blocks which represent factors of the product numbers on the screen. Prime Time exemplifies the fundamental theorem of arithmetic, also called the unique factorization theorem, which states that every positive non-prime integer can be written as a unique product of primes. As the student continues on the numbers will grow larger more complex forcing
